- Probiotics will help replenish the friendly bacteria in your stomach destroyed by the use of antibiotics, chronic overeating and the consumption of food laden with toxins.
- Make sure you’re still getting fibre. Eat small plant based meals throughout the day or add add some chia seeds into your juices. The chia will support the microflora in your stomach as well as strip toxins from your digestive tract. We like to drop the chia seeds in, and then leave the juice for 5-10 minutes. The chia turns into an almost chia jelly!
- Have your first juice when you would normally have breakfast and then drink your juices every 2-2.5 hours. You can plan out your day accordingly based on your day, when you'd be having lunch, dinner, going to sleep, etc... Don't forget to shake them well and drink them slowly.
- Are you hungry between juices? That's normal as all our bodies and our relationships with food are unique. However, the cleanse should not be a struggle, so if you're feeling a little snacky then raw food is totally okay. Fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds are all completely fine to have while on Juice Cleansing. For example: a handful of unsalted almonds or walnuts, a leafy green salad with apple cider vinegar dressing and an avocado or maybe soak some chia seeds in room temperature water for 10 minutes and enjoy some chia pudding.
- Drinking water will cut your hunger. Have a nice big glass of lemon water, it will also hydrate you and give you some good energy.
- With all this juice and water, you may be craving something warm. Decaffeinated herbal teas are great to have while doing a juice cleanse. Burdock root, nettle and dandelion teas are some of our favorites to sip on while cleansing.
- Some experience headaches on their first day of the cleanse, they tend to dissipate by the second. If you find it hasn't and you have an inkling that it could be from cutting coffee out of your diet, try having a shot of espresso rather than a full cup of joe. It should help do the trick.
- You'll probably lose some water weight but in all likelyhood it will come back, so don't approach the juice cleanse as a diet. Approach your juice cleanse as a step to detoxify your body, to get your diet back on track and break some food addictions. - If you feel like you just can't finish a juice, then don't sweat it. Drink as much as you can. Your body will tell you when you've had enough. - While cleansing, try dry body brushing or coconut oil pulling. Gently brush your body in small circular motions from the ankles up towards the heart, always upwards with the exception of your back in which case you slowly brush from the neck down. This will stimulate the release of toxins accumulated in the body and help the skin better absorb nutrients. Swish coconut oil in your mouth immediately upon waking to remove toxins that have built up inside your mouth.
- If you’re ready to take another cleansing step give hydrotherapy a go or practice yoga. Alternating hot and cold showers stimulates circulation while the motions of yoga will naturally release unwanted toxins from your body while also relaxing your mind during your juice cleanse. Additionally you may want to try traditional or infa-red saunas or colonics.
- If you're searching for inspiration during your juice cleanse, there are a handful of movies we recommend you watch. Cowspiracy, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead, Hungry for Change, Forks Over Knives and Simply Raw are some of our faves and we're sure you'll love them too! - When you wake the morning following your juice cleanse, be proud and applaud yourself for your juice cleanse accomplishment. Ease yourself back into your diet, cleansing is about maintaining a healthy lifestyle rather than crash course changes.
